What is Asbestos?
Asbestos has been a very popular building material since the 1950s and its naturally occurring fibrous elements means it was classed as useful in multiple situations. Predominantly used as an insulator it also has very good fire protection properties and protects against corrosion.
Asbestos is more often than not found mixed with another material meaning it is hard to know if you are working with it or not. However, if you are working on a building built before the year 2000 it is likely asbestos will be contained in some part of it. Asbestos is found in multiple products, with the diagram illustrating the most commonly affected areas.
