Comparing Quotes With Solar PV

We have found with Kingsley Eco Solutions customers a high level of knowledge and insight into the technology and performance of the Solar PV (photovoltaic) system.  But not everyone who goes shopping around for quotes has done their homework, and in many cases are reliant on the company to advise them on the best system for their home, with the correct design.

Over recent months a plethora of wholesale companies have emerged onto the market in the UK offering a wide choice of panels and inverters.  From recent activity in Germany with their Feed in Tariff dropping, there became a world-wide shortage of PV inverters. Consequently,  new brands have emerged onto the Solar PV stage, with no history of performance and reliability on a real on-site scenario.

Our advice is to do your homework.  The Web is full of helpful comments, although not all correct or objective and make sure you ask and compare the efficiency of the panels.  Other factors to consider are whether the company is experienced to make an informed  judgment on the suitability of the structure of the roof for wind-lift and weight.  This is a MCS requirement.  We found on our research that some companies are not.  If panels are placed too close to the edge of the roof, this can affect the wind-lift factor and thus a proper structural survey should be undertaken.

Design of the system is paramount.  If the panels are to be installed onto two faces of the roof, two separate inverter are required in order to keep consistency of performance with different light effects and shadowing.

At Kingsley Eco Solutions we use two top brand inverters- SMA and Mastervolt.  In regards to panels we currently offer the Suntech range (14.3% efficient).  For projects where the roof space is limited and the customer wishes to have maximum KW and return, we offer the high efficiency panel Sanyo (17.3%). We are also part of a wider Group of specialist companies, including roofing.  This gives you the assurance that your roof is in good hands and a proper assessment has been done on the structure of your roof from industry experts.

One Response to “Comparing Quotes With Solar PV”

  1. Hello

I need a quote for a visually as well as functionally acceptable solar electric panel array on a south facing hipped roof in Shoreham-by-Sea. Partial shading from neighbouring property has led me to want individual panel monitoring either via panel mounted optimisers linked to a loft mounted compatible inverter or via individual panel mounted micro invereters.
In order to fulfil the first requirements I am leaning toward the Sanyo 140W HIT panels to fit 13 panels providing 3kW max. Other panels would provide less output that I am not keen to accept unless reliability is a factor or cost prohibitive
Can you give me a quotes for these options along with alternative suggestions please?

    Thanks

    Andy Earnshaw
